El ministro para Asuntos Marítimos, Jorge Barakat Pitty informó del registro de la primera nave de bandera panameña de 20,000 contenedores de Japón, “en el contexto de los 100 años del Registro de Naves de Panamá”.

La nave bautizada con el nombre MOL TRUTH, con número de IMO: 9773210, posee una capacidad de 20.170 TEU, cuenta con 400 metros de longitud (eslora), 58 metros de ancho (manga) y 33 metros de puntal (la altura del cuerpo del buque desde la quilla hasta la cubierta), es el primer buque portacontenedores de la clase 20.000 TEU desplegado para el comercio entre Asia y Europa, la cual será operada por Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), sirviendo principalmente la carga de Toyota Corporation.

Es “ecoamigable”, perteneciendo a la clasificación Ultra Large Container Ship (ULCS), se encuentra diseñado con algunas mejoras en la propulsión, buscando que sea más eficiente, reduciendo las emisiones de CO2 hasta un 50% comparado con otros buques portacontenedores”, indicó un comunicado de la AMP.

Asimismo, detalló que cuenta con la opción de modernización para convertirlo en buque con GNL a la vista de la implementación de la nueva regulación de la Organización Marítima Internacional (OMI) para limitar las emisiones de  óxido de azufre (SOx) en los combustibles marinos que entrarán en vigor en 2020.

Barakat Pitty agradeció a la comunidad marítima japonesa por su confianza y apoyo a la bandera panameña, ya que Panamá ha sido, es y seguirá siendo un socio confiable de Japón, tanto en los tiempos buenos como en los tiempos difíciles.

El Embajador de Panamá en Japón, S.E. Ritter N. Díaz, participó en la ceremonia de designación de nombre de una nueva nave japonesa de bandera panameña, realizado en el astillero de Saijo de la ciudad de Imabari.
